SonyEricsson X2 vs HTC Touch Pro 2 (Fight of the Windows Mobile Slider Phones Giants)

VS

Those high end devices are similar in features in almost every aspect, however the SE X2 is yet to be released, and the HTC Touch Pro (TP) 2 has been released since may, 2009 (yes, SonyEricsson is lagging way behind). In this article i am going to illustrate the differences in both devices, which might help decide on which one to take

The main obvious software advantage of the X2 over the TP2 is that X2 has Windows Mobile 6.5 while TP2 has Windows Mobile 6.1. however HTC TP2 can be upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.5 either by a developer made frameware (Cooked ROM as HTC developers calls it) or an official upgrade from the HTC site.

X2 has Optical trackpad, stereo speakers, 3.5 mm audio jack while TP2 doesnt have those goodies.

Screen size of the TP2 is 3.6 inches while in X2 its 3.4 (2 more inches DO make a difference in the mobile phones world)

A big advantage of X2 over the TP2 is the camera, which is 8 MP while in TP2 its 3.15 MP (but the way i see it, if you are fond by cameras, get a good stand alone camera)

In terms of user interface experience, the X2 has its famous, well known XPERIA panels user interface, while the TP2 has its own (also famous in HTC world) TouchFLO 3D Interface.

Everything else in those two high end phones are almost identical, it finally comes down to you, wither you prefer XPERIA panels user interface or TouchFLO 3D Interface. and of course wither you prefer to have a relatively good camera in your phone or not, but bare in mind that the X2 is yet to be released (first months its price will be skyrocket “very high”) while the HTC Touch Pro 2 has been around since Last May (2009), with almost identical features as the SonyEricsson X2.

SonyEricsson now is ranked number 5 (believe it or not) in mobile market share in 2009, lagging behind Nokia, Samsung, LG, and even Motorola. SE now seems that it is trying to cut down manifacturing low end devices, and concentrate on high end, smart devices, i am not sure if its the right move in these economically difficult times, or is it?

    thax Arkan ,,
X2 looks nice if it can compete with price (since both have same features)…

for me ill keep my Nokia E71 until Sony Ericsson catch-up and release smart phone that can compete with other Android phones.

    you're all welcome,

@Ali, if X10 had a keyboard "a physical one" i would have taken it in a heart beat, i am a heavy texter. full touch screen with heavy texting are very hard (if not impossible) to co-exist, but am sure X10 with its snapdragon processor (1GHz) will have its own market with touch screen fans plus android geeks :)

@Khalid, the HTC TP2 is around 335 OMR here in oman, last time i checked. i cant imagine how much X2 would be when it first releases, probably around 400 OMR in the first month Lol.

as for SE with android, X10 is a very good choice, with its snapdragon processor, only if they attach a full QWERTY keyboard to it, it would be the ultimate phone ..

  7. 1 day old TP2 and possessing some adjustment shock. I will seem thoroughly thru this website, nonetheless it is so distinct from my q and my palm 800 which had been both largely the very same. At this time the only point I truly understand is tips on how to access world wide web ( that is why I purchased it ) Making calls recieving messages is harder, moving photos to TP@ so I can use it like a viewer appears not possible. I can move them but i want them to become quickly identified around the device. Learning curve I hope is all.

  8. Hi Kimberly

I think your problem is with Windows Mobile 6.x it is well known for its “non-user-friendliness”. If it helps to say, you would have similar experience with X2 (because they have the same OS).

I dont know anyone who bought TP2 and stayed with the stock firmware, i would advice you to change it to something lighter and more user-friendly.

go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=479 and enter “Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile ROM Development” at first it may seem long and dangerous process, .. and it is, but it will be worth it.

    good luck
